The book comes in two volumes and runs to almost 1800 pages. Although screen shots and figures are used they don't dominate as they do in some books, so there is a fair proportion of text.
Two CDs are supplied. These contain the complete text of the two volumes, as well as the complete text of eight other titles (e.g. Special Edition Using Visual Basic 4). The CDs could prove invaluable in a teaching capacity as, for example, you could use the figures in the books rather than draw your own; although it would be worth checking copyright implications first. The CD versions of the books are viewed with an internet browser. If you don't have one, a copy is supplied.
The book is published by Que so most of you are probably familiar with the format of their books. It can be taken as read that the books cover the material in a comprehensive, logical manner. It should be obvious from the size of the book and the price that this is not a purchase that will sit on your bookshelf. But, for a BackOffice implementation or support team it will be a volume that they turn to regularly and should easily repay its cost. If I worked in a BackOffice support role I would certainly ask for a copy for the team's bookshelf.
