This CD contains utilities which automate much of the configuring and fine tuning covered in Windows 98 Annoyances by Karp plus some extra enhancement features, e.g. it saves one poking about in the registry. For example, when Microsoft designed the Windows interface and how it interacts with the mouse they threw away most the research carried out in GUI design and implementation over the past 30 years. Unfortunately this shows!

The Annoyances software has a simple graphical interface which enables one select settings that affect how files and folders are managed, customise the Start menu and desktop, streamline Internet interactions and optimise system performance (such as speeding up menus and checking that virtual memory settings are optimum).

In addition there are several other software utilities on the disc including Linkshare which enables one to share bookmarks between browsers, Power Rename for renaming groups of files and Web Browser Delegate which sets up default web utilities such as browser, FTP program, mail manager, etc.

An easy to use set of utilities useful for the developer or user wishing to configure and tune Windows 98 quickly. A trial copy of the software comes with the Windows 98 Annoyances book or may be downloaded from http://www.oreilly.com/. Highly recommended!
