Now to the book itself. Unlike many other books about Borland C++ this one does not try to turn you into an instant graphics programmer nor an expert in producing products for MS Windows. It does not waste your time with C approaches. It assumes that you have some basic knowledge of programming though those with no more than a smattering based on BASIC or some such will find some parts heavy going.
The authors work hard to try and get the concepts across and include non- programming examples where they think these may help your understanding. Unlike too many other writers, they take time to discuss such issues as 'defensive programming' and 'contractual programming' (not to be confused with contract programming).
I like the book and think that it might well be the first book you go and buy after your new Borland C++ compiler arrives. A few parts of the book need the full Borland C++ 3.1 but much of it will work with one of the lesser products such as Turbo C++.
I hope this is the start of another high quality publishing imprint (like Microsoft Press and its relationship with Penguin Press). Its a good start for them and could be a good start for you.
