Gateway to web pages

The ACCU server runs an access gateway to make browsing awkward Web pages easier.  It intercepts your Web browsing and changes the HTML to suit your preferences.  Please select:

What the disabilities officer does

The Association of C and C++ Users aims to be accessible to all who are interested, although there are many with a disability or similar special need who could benefit from the organisation but assume it to be inaccessible.  The disabilities officer can act as a contact point for any member or potential member with a special need.

ACCU does not require you to be in any way  officially  disabled for you to contact the disabilities officer, nor does it ignore you if you can "just about manage" (which means you're struggling but don't want to admit it).  And because ACCU is a non-profit making organisation, it does not seek to extract large amounts of money from its membership, including the disabled (some organisations help the disabled at an unnecessarily high price on the premise that grants and benefits pay for it, but this is not universally true).

Some of the examples of the things I am here for are:

• If you can't fill in the membership form (or any other form that ACCU sends out) I could help
• The editor sends me his electronic copy of the magazine C Vu and the membership handbook (other than the contact list), and I can pass these on to any member who for whatever reason is unable to read the printed magazine, converting into a different file format if necessary.  Other publications may be arranged.  Shortly, all ACCU publications are to be available to members in electronic form anyway so this role will become obsolete.
• If anybody has special needs at the annual conference, contact me so I can collect and report as necessary
• I hope to make sure the web pages are accessible
• I hope to inform anyone who would be interested that ACCU has a disabilities officer and might not be as inaccessible as they think
• Anything else please talk to me; it is the nature of special needs that they cannot all be predicted in advance.
